Peru streamlines efforts to introduce blueberries, grapes and peppers in Chile

Peru's efforts to gain access for its blueberries to the Chilean market had a positive outcome after the progress made in the bilateral meeting held by the National Service of Agrarian Health (Senasa) with the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile; a meeting where there was also important for the export of Peruvian fresh grapes and fresh peppers.

During the bilateral meeting, both sides agreed to prioritize the list of products of interest to new accesses, with the goal of establishing annual quantities. In that sense, Senasa requested access for blueberries and the SAG confirmed that it would speed up procedures with the relevant Chilean authorities.

Senasa also asked for priority access to the Chilean market for fresh grapes and fresh peppers, as negotiations for these products are well advanced and exports would materialize in 2016. In addition, they requested permission to export Hass from new production areas in Peru, such as Ayacucho, Huancavelica, and Ancash.

To achieve this, Senasa will send the wording of the amendment, which includes the requirement of 29% of the dry matter level, to the SAG in Chile so they can include it in the Hass avocado work plan that is currently in force.

The negotiations to gain access for cherimoya, prickly pear, and cape gooseberries will conclude in 2017, and the country would achieve access for passion fruit, lime, and sweet potato in 2018.

Chile focused its efforts to export tomato plants and watermelon to Peru in 2016, but the SAG could still request prioritizing other products.
