Avocado production in Jalisco has become an important activity, after the entity exported 82 million dollars of this fruit in 2014, stated the head of the Ministry of Rural Development (Seder) in the state, Hector Gutierrez Padilla.
After pledging official support for the establishment of a packing plant in Concepcion de Buenos Aires, Jalisco, where the second largest producing area avocados entity is located, Gutierrez Padilla said that, due to the lack of infrastructure, much of the product was currently being sold through the warehouses in Zapotlan to supply the domestic market and make exports to Canada, Asia, and Europe.
In general, Jalisco has 14,976 hectares devoted to the cultivation of this fruit, 11,162 of which are certified and free of pests.
The entity produces about 100,000 tons of avocado and the productive area has gone from 1,000 hectares devoted to this crop in 2000, to the nearly 15,000 hectares the entity currently has.
