Peru to host 23rd International Pepper Conference 2016

The Association of Exporters (Adex ) stated that there was an increasing international demand for Peruvian chillies and peppers, as exports of these products amounted to 271.8 million dollars in 2015, i.e. 19% more than in the previous year.

Peruvian exports of chillies and peppers during the first two months of 2016 amounted to 36.6 million dollars.

The steady growth in the export of these products and their consolidation in international markets has allowed Peru to be designated as the host country of the 23rd International Pepper Conference 2016, the world's most important event for the capsicum sector (peppers, chillies, chillies or peppers), which brings together the most renowned experts and leading entrepreneurs and producers in the field.

Peru was chosen to host this important event two years ago in Chile. This is the second time that this conference will be held in South America. Previously it was only held in the United States and Mexico.

The chairman of Adex' capsicum committee, Renzo Gomez, said that an important part of the success of Peruvian cuisine was due to the Peruvian chillies and peppers. He also stated that their acceptance and demand abroad were essential for the growth of the agricultural export sector.

"Capsicum are the basis of Peruvian and international cuisine. Our country has a very important diversity, the chillies from the jungle are aromatic, the ones from the South are spicy and the ones from the North are very tasty; the food is directly linked to the chillies," he said.

Peru offers canned capsicum, such as the piquillo and bell peppers; dry capsicum, such as paprika and guajillo; and frozen and fresh capsicum, which the US health authorities authorized to enter into the United States in September 2014.
