Solutions against weak cold chain system

China: enhanced carton packaging preserves freshness

In China, a continuous cold chain (transport) system is not always available. This can affect fresh produce quality. Recently, a Chinese packaging company has launched a solution that should mitigate insufficient temperature control. Bao Xin Trading has designed a carton box with improved pressure and moisture control, which enhances its preserving capacities. According to Mr Zheng, the CEO of the company, his carton boxes maintain freshness for three to five days longer compared to regular carton packaging. Because the packaging is moisture proof, it remains in shape longer during and after transport.

"We have added a natural non-metallic porous material which is a powdered substance made of nano-particles. These nano-particles can absorb moisture and keep harmful gases out. As a result, the fresh produce remains fresh longer," says Mr Zheng.

"Our packaging solutions are currently used for vegetables, fruit, flowers, seafood and electronic products. The feedback we have received from our clients is very positive. The boxes are more expensive than regular carton boxes, but these costs are compensated by the decrease in loss in product waste."
