Start of sweet and sour Miyi cherry season
China: 20 days of air freight domestic cherries
Miyi County in Sichuan province has a subtropical dry and hot climate. Day temperatures are stable all year around, but temperature differences between night and day are significant. This geographic conditions are favouring a particular variety of small cherries that is named after the region: the Miyi cherry.
Currently, there are 400 hectares of cherry orchards in Miyi country. The season start in the beginning of April and runs for 20 to 30 days.
Miyi cherries are small, have a bright colour and a sweet-sour taste. Their skin is relatively thin and the fruit is juicy.
Chongqing Guolin Xinyuan Technology cooperates with Sichuan Airlines to ship their products to their customers across China. The cherries go from orchard to customers in less than 12 hours. "The cherries are picked from 6 to 9 am in the morning. They are selected, packed and shipped in a couple of hours and send off by plane around 2pm the same day. The cherries are flown to Chongqing, from where they are distributed to consumers and stores in the region," says Mr Jiang Antao, the general manager.
Chongqing Guolin Xinyuan Technology is one of the largest fruit chain stores in and around Chongqing. The group has over 30 stores and also sells its products online.
