“No large onion orders, but many countries on the market”

Currently the onion market is fairly calm. Is it the calm before the storm? “No one knows,” Lindert Moerdijk responds. “It could be the calm before the storm. Brazil has three weeks of local and Argentinian harvest left, but right now the market there is full. In other years demand from North Africa was sometimes more stable, but now sometimes they join and at other times immediately stop.”

“Furthermore, demand is surprisingly broad, but we do not get enough large orders to become really busy. It is about one car at a time. But I do not mind at all that it is slightly calmer. It will be a little easier for now. It has been a good season up till now,” Moerdijk continues.

“There is not much movement in prices, bale prices are around 25 cent. Farmers with good quality keep the prices up. And rightly so, as onions do show wear and tear, and there is not a lot of good quality left. I am curious as to how the market goes on. People on the onion market spend a lot of time pondering.”
