Growing greenhouse demand by small and organic companies

"2015 was a positive year for our company, in line with the previous ones. We have had requests from both well-structured and well-integrated companies that continue to invest and new companies with young bosses interested in innovation and the advantages brought about by greenhouse cultivation," explains Maria Cipro, director of CO.SER., a company specialising in the manufacturing of greenhouses.

"In addition, we are receiving more requests from small and organic companies. The use of greenhouses, in fact, enables the cultivation of fruit and vegetables out of season guaranteeing bigger yields and protecting the crops from the weather and from animals. These advantages are of vital importance not only for big companies - our usual clients - but also for small businesses wanting to survive in such a competitive market characterised by few and expensive soil and water resources and unforeseeable climatic changes."

As stressed by the director, over the past year Italian businesses had to deal with additional consequences from the Russian ban, which caused a drop of exports towards Russia with respect to 2013 and stronger competition due to the fact that there is excessive produce available on the domestic market, leading to decreased prices. "The most dynamic companies have immediately found other markets, but there are still problems due to the fact that the EU sanctions have been extended to 5th August 2016 and that quotations have been affected by the mild winter."

"In the past few years, we have received more requests from abroad, especially from Greece, Malta, Croatia and Romania. There is definitely potential in these countries as businesses are expanding. Although we are expecting to increase our exports in the next few years, we believe the majority of the sales will happen in Italy thanks to our main clients, who will continue to grow and invest."

"Our clients rely upon us for the quality of our products and excellent value for money provided. With over 20 years of experience in the sector, our team can advise our clients on the best solution for their needs. Our clients' demands are varied, just like our range, which includes simple inexpensive solutions as well as state-of-the-art technological ones. In addition to greenhouses for the fruit and vegetable sector, we provide structures for the livestock, flower and nursery garden sectors as well as mushroom beds and warehouses."
