Liquidseal for avocado, mango and papaya

New coating for longer shelf life tropical fruits

Until now, Liquidseal was only known in the flower sector. The company makes environmentally friendly post harvest products that extend shelf life. In addition to the recipes developed by the company for use on lily bulbs and cut roses, an application for fruit is now available as well.

Avocado, mango and papaya
Victor Monster of Liquidseal says that the R&D department has developed and extensively tested three new recipes for use on fruit. “These special recipes for avocado, mango and papaya are in full compliance with the American FDA and the European regulations for use on fruit with a ‘hard’ skin. We use an environmentally friendly coating that guarantees a longer shelf life for tropical fruits such as avocado, mango and papaya. There will also be possibilities for other ‘hard’ skinned fruits, such as citrus, in the near future. Liquidseal for Fruits can be applied directly after harvesting by means of either a spraying or dipping system.”

New way
According to Victor the coating is not a replacement of a specific product, but a completely new one. “With this we offer an innovative way of packaging/coating. The very specific qualities of Liquidseal affect the metabolism and the slow release mechanism allows us to sharply reduce the use of pesticides.” Victor indicates that Liquidseal for Fruits offers many benefits. “Upon using this coating there will be less waste, while also extending the product’s shelf life. Additionally, the product will maintain its quality longer in the supply chain.”

Worldwide expansion
As the product is still very new, it has not yet been used in the fruit and vegetable sector. Now that the recipes are in compliance with the official authorities, Liquidseal for Fruits can be supplied, while this was not allowed before. “Because of these regulations there are therefore no examples yet of companies that use our product. Liquidseal is already being used on, among others, lily bulbs and cut roses, with the Dutch Flower Group (DFG) as user for the roses. Recently three new recipes for Liquidseal for Fruits have been approved. This allows us to introduce these new recipes and we can now start expanding further commercial tests worldwide,” Victor concludes.
