EU donates seedlings for Cyclone Winston victims

On Thursday 24 March, the European Union handed over 43,000 fruit and vegetable seedlings to the Ministry of Agriculture in Fiji, for distribution among the victims of Tropical Cyclone Winston.

In handing over the seedlings, EU ambassador to the Pacific Andrew Jacobs says the project is the first of several EU and Secretariat for the Pacific Community's initiative in assisting rebuilding lives.

"These seedlings consist of a mixture of cabbages, eggplants, tomatoes, chillies, papayas and so forth," Mr Jacobs said.

"In total it is close to 450,000 vegetable and fruit seedlings that will be made available in the next few months. This will enable communities to access fresh and nutritious crops as from the next few weeks."
