Increased button mushroom production in Thuringia Germany

According to the Thuringia Bureau of Statistics the 2,100 metric tons of button mushrooms were produced on a total of 77,000 square meters of land in 2015.

These companies didn’t produce other mushroom varieties such as oyster mushrooms or shiitake. In 2015 the yield of button mushrooms was about 293 metric tons, 16% higher than the previous year. The management of land is exclusively conventional and compared to 2014 the area was constant.

Günter Krombholz the president of the Thuringia Bureau of Statistics continues: “Every household in Thuringia could buy four 500 grams packages of homegrown button mushrooms. In the last year 58,700 metric tons of mushrooms were produced, of those 57,600 metric tons were button mushrooms, in Germany. The share of button mushrooms produced in Thuringia is 4%”
