"Preserving the taste and colour of vegetables"

Nim’s launches air-dried vegetable chips

Nimisha Raja has recently launched a new line of air-dried vegetable chips. This snack is 100% natural and tastes like the original vegetables. Nim's is the only brand in the UK which produces and markets these chips. At Tavola, the company presented its new products and its plan is to reach several European countries. Nim's already introduced fruit chips in 2011, which are available in six different flavours. "We saw that a really tasty and healthy snack was hard to find, so we came up with the idea to offer air-dried fruit except it would not be like the chewy sticky fruit you usually get. We want to make it crispy because it’s more fun"

Three flavours
"In the UK, we have the exclusive with this new line of vegetable chips. The three varieties available are tomato-cucumber, pepper-courgette and beet-parsnip. With this latest innovation, we are targeting health-conscious consumers. It's nice to have sweet, as well as savoury products in the range," explains the owner Nimisha Raja. "We focus primarily on large retailers, but our products are also of interest to small stores, offices and schools. We are able to meet the specific requirements of each client regarding both the product itself and the packaging. We expect the vegetable chip product line to be further expanded in the coming year."

Nutritive value

Nim's factory is located in Kent and vegetables are bought as much as possible from local growers. Last October, Nim's Fruit Crisps moved its production to a new air-drying plant with unique characteristics in the UK. After the drying process, the nutritional value, taste and colour of the fresh vegetables is largely preserved and the product also retains its crispness. Nims has previously received awards for its three products: apple, orange and pineapple chips.

Tavola - products are well received
"Both the fruit and vegetable crisps have been really well received at the foodexhibition Tavola in Belgium with interest from supermarkets, distributors, food service sector as well as small independent stores. I now have distribution in Belgium and I am also speaking with some of the large retailers and food service sectors in in France & Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany & the Netherlands. What was really surprising for me was how innovative people are in Belgium. I have had requests to supply a gin manufacturer with our Air Dried Orange Crisps. I have had requests to supply cheese sellers and even an ice cream maker who would like to coat the ice lollies they make with fruit pieces instead of chocolate or sweets."
