Demand for organic, biodynamic products continues to grow

"The increasing demand for organic products means that bigger volumes are destined for industrial processing with a high added value. In addition, over the past couple of years, we have introduced biodynamic products, which are very popular especially in Northern Europe," explains Antonio Codo, sales manager for Veritas Biofrutta srl.

Veritas Biofrutta is the Gruppo Mazzoni company dedicated entirely to the sale of organic and biodynamic products. It was established in 2002 and currently manages around 15,000 tons of produce a year (apples, pears, kiwis, citrus fruit, vegetables and processed produce), representing 16% of the entire turnover of the group.

"We work mainly with Central and Northern European markets thanks to our wide range of products - we deal in fact with over 60 products from all over Italy, 75% of which is packaged for modern distribution."

"To achieve the best results, we work with a network of suppliers with which we have established a strong partnership. We provide technical support to all Veritas Biofrutta producers, it's the only way to reach the level of quality that makes us stand out. Nowadays, the increase in consumption means we need new partners."

Veritas Biofrutta works with its own brand (Verybio), but also with private labels providing innovative formats, dedicated support and high-quality processing to meet the needs of European retailers.

The company is planning new investments in structures and technologies dedicated to organic activities. Gruppo Mazzoni also sells organic frozen fruit (mainly berries) to the domestic and foreign confectionery industry and retailers.

"Our team is young and motivated - in the past three years, we have exceeded our objectives with a yearly volume increase of 16 and 18%. We like to think about that result as a starting point though."

Gruppo Mazzoni believes that the share dedicated to the organic sector will increase in the next few years following the evolution of consumption.
