Turkey to boost Bursa black fig exports

Under the umbrella of the Uludag Exporters Union’s activities to develop fresh fruit and vegetable production in Turkey, the Uludag Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Union (UYMSIB) hosted a meeting on boosting Bursa black fig exports.

Growers, growers’ unions, relevant village heads, agricultural chambers and exporters met to discuss the necessary measures for increasing the exports of the figs. At the meeting UYMSIB and the directorate of the Bursa Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry discussed the necessity for intensive training in the villages and it was decided to create an inspection body within UYMSIB to prevent problems that may occur during the production of the figs.

UYMSIB Chairman Prof. Dr. Senih Yazgan said, “The setting up of a network system between growers and exporters, will accelerate the flow of information between the two sides."

Yazgan explained that the Bursa black figs are an important product for Bursa, therefore more needs to be done to develop the production and marketing of them.

Bursa Black figs are not just sent to the European market, there is the potential for the Far East to become and important market and Yazgan emphasised the importance of protecting existing markets.
