Ann Beyne, commercial manager at Tomabel, says that they have been selling organic mushrooms under the brand through the REO Veiling since the start of 2014. "More organic varieties were added. Last year we decided to offer the entire mushroom assortment organically. The range includes white mushrooms, brown mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, mini oyster mushrooms and shiitake. At the start we only offered regular mushrooms, but as the demand for organic increased, our producers switched in discussion with the auction."

The REO Veiling sees the demand for organic products increase. "The retail in particular is a demanding party. Yet it's not always easy to switch for growers. The process for mushrooms isn't always difficult, but for other products the transition period is quite long and costly. During this period everything still has to be marketed as regular. Organic is certainly on this rise, but we can't say how quickly it will go."
