Bas van Walderveen:

"Wide customer base for Valencia Late from Morocco"

At Van Walderveen from Nieuwegein the first Moroccan Valencia Late arrived yesterday afternoon. Bas van Walderveen visited the Moroccan suppliers last week and saw that the orange harvest looked good. "They are expecting a lot of larger sizes. This isn't that favourable, as the small sizes (80-90-100) are most wanted for the pressing machine."

Van Walderveen has been working with supplier Copag. The importer will start with the brand Faras and this will be followed up with the brand Holmar later in the season. The season for Moroccan Valencia's will last until mid July. "We also have a wide customer base for the Valencia Late, varying from fellow wholesalers to exporters and export customers. "As far as flavour is concerned Morocco is always better than Egypt, but because the Egyptians are a bit cheaper, you are always bothered by them," says Bas.

Yet he looks towards the season with optimism. "Morocco has a good local market and exports large volumes to Russia themselves. The volumes for export will be well regulated for now. The season of the Spanish Salustiana's is as good as over and we are never that bothered by the Spanish Valencia Late. Nothing can stand in the way of a good season!"
