Displays can boost St Patrick's Day potato sales

Fresh Solutions Network announced its March celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day, with the “Luck ‘o the Potato,” in-store promotion, featuring classic, Irish potato recipes, to capture the magic of this festive, Irish-food-themed holiday feast.

Potatoes are a must-have menu item for Saint Patrick’s Day, and with thoughts of a traditional Irish meal, shoppers will be planning early, and seeking ideas for a festive holiday party.

“Saint Patrick’s Day is a huge potato holiday,” said Kathleen Triou, President and CEO of Fresh Solutions Network, “ And to support the success of our retailer partners, we are creating excitement in-stores with fee-standing, promotionally themed ‘Luck ‘o the Potato,’ merchandiser displays, and coordinating point-of-purchase signage for the potato table.”

The promotion will be further supported digitally on the Side Delights website, and on social media with recipes selected to capture the spirit of the holiday.

Shoppers will be tempted to try either a tasty, Irish Roasted, Red Potato recipe, or a traditional Irish Colcannon that uses white or Russet potatoes, delivered via QR code on both the free standing merchandiser and point-of-purchase cards for the potato table.

Retailers can drive even bigger sales by locating this holiday merchandiser in the meat department by the corned beef, creating a meal solution for shoppers.

A study conducted by the US Potato Board showed that when potatoes are merchandised in the meat department, overall category sales increased by 15.8 percent, the featured potato sales increased 78 percent, fresh meat sales increased by two percent. AND, shoppers total basket ring increased by two percent.
