The apple harvest in Germany was, with 973,000 metric tons, in 2015 13% lower than the exceptionally good harvest in 2014. The conditions weren’t as good as the previous year, due to the hot weather combined with the drought. However the German Statistical Office (Destatis) reported during the “Green Week” that this year the yield was still 1% higher than the 10-year-average (965,000 metric tons).
The most important areas for the production of apples are in Baden-Wuerttemberg (Lake Constance), Lower Saxony as well as in Saxony. These German states are responsible for 68% (659,000 metric tons) of the entire apple harvest.
The acreage for apple production in Germany has remained quite constant over the last 10 years. The total surface currently consists of 31,400 hectares.
