US: Citrus delays only temporary

The recent rains in both California and Florida this past week have been causing some delays in harvesting, along with citrus greening. Jeff Young from A&J Produce Corp. said that the company is currently importing clementines from Spain, but that they are not currently looking elsewhere to fill the gap in the domestic supply.

"Current rains are only creating a temporary shortage due to citrus greening and after a week or so, things are expected to go back to normal. It would not be cost effective at the moment to bring in product from another country."

There hasn't been a situation up to this point where wholesalers have not received any product, and for now it has just been a matter of a light supply. There have been no adjustments made to the pricing structure and prices are stable.

What has also helped keep the domestic situation stable is that a lot of the citrus which is being harvested is for export and has been receiving very high prices, offsetting the domestic prices during this temporary delay.
