Europe: Top Control at Fruit Logistica with StatisticsWeights and StorageMove

Top Control, a company specialising in the automatisation of the fruit and food sector, will attend Fruit Logistica in Berlin. "Thanks to the mechanical, electronic and software development sectors, we aim at the automatisation of fruit processing from weighing to labelling and down to packaging thus enabling the traceability of all operations," explains owner Michael Saltuari.

Top Control headquarters in Terlano (BZ).

Top Control initially specialised in top fruit, especially since it is located in the main apple producing area in Italy, and has since become a sector leader thanks also to FruitManager, "a software we developed for processing, palletisation and traceability lines. It is a management software not to be confused with a normal order processing programme."

Afterapples, the company started working with other products too. "Three years ago, we started looking for new opportunities. That is how StatisticsWeights was developed. It is a hardware and software system that records the weighings on the various scales, who carried them out, the time it took, yields, waste and so on."

The system will be presented in Berlin. "It monitors the workflow in packaging centres and was developed with strawberries and soft fruit in mind, as most of the processing is still carried out by hand and minimum differences can lead in big changes of the final result."

"Our system is becoming increasingly popular and so far we have installed around a thousand copies in Italy, Austria, Germany, Spain, Switzerland and even South Africa, where they use it for table grapes. Around Christmas we have concluded the first project in Huelva and the system is getting popular in the UK too."

In addition to StatisticsWeight, the company will also present its second project, StorageMove, described as "the same innovation the GPS brought about in the world of maps."

The system enables the localisation and handling of bins inside cold storage units. "StorageMove enables the handling of bins in 20 units without even having to press a button or scan a barcode. It is similar to a GPS system, though it is even more precise. It is the system that tells you where a bin is located in real time, thus saving time and guaranteeing a better quality, seeing that we are talking about perishable goods. Currently we are the only ones using this system, barcodes are outdated."

Top Control will be Fruit Logistica, in hall 3.1, stand A-03.
