Colombia: Invention makes eating passionfruit easy

"Colombia produces passionfruit throughout the whole year. It is a very sweet fruit with a very good life span, and that appeals to young and old," said Ocati's sales team. "However, it can be very cumbersome to eat: people need a spoon, they need to break the fruit's skin, getting everything messy ... People in Colombia are used to this, but the rest of the world might not know how to open it and that could give them a bad impression," they added.

Thus, Ocati created a straw so that people can easily consume the fruit without using cutlery. It's very simple to do, as can be seen in the picture: one needs to shake the fruit, insert the straw in it and ... enjoy!

The company exports passionfruit around the world, especially to Europe, throughout the whole year. In Asia, consumers prefer eating dragon fruit, another of the products offered by the company.

The straw will come included in a single package along with two passionfruit. For now, the company has tried out this innovation with its European customers. It's grand launch will be held at the Fruit Logistica.
