Mild weather in France throws the market

The mild weather over the last two months has favoured an increase in the growth of winter vegetables such as cauliflower, lambs lettuce and salad. However, the same warm weather means that people are not consuming these winter vegetables.

According to FranceAgriMer, on the 30th December, the cauliflower was in crisis with prices 30% below the weekly average calculated over the last 5 seasons. A lot of cauliflower, salad and lambs lettuce is not even harvested, or has to be destroyed.

Legumes de France hopes that cold weather will soon arrive to bring an end to the current situation. Jacques Rouchaussé, President of the Union, has planned to urge the Minster of Agriculture to allow the producers that want to, to be able to fall back on the annuity measures offered this summer to breeders.
