Cosur is a fresh fruit import-export company part of Gruppo Battaglio. It was established in 2002 with the objective of supplying counter-seasonal pears to Battaglio in Italy. At the moment, apples and pears are being exported to Italy, Brazil, Russia, USA, Middle and Far East, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Peru, etc. For its local market, Cosur sells imported products such as bananas from Ecuador (3 thousand ton), pineapples (one thousand ton), pears (10 thousand ton) and apples (one thousand tons). "All our products are sold mainly to supermarkets and wholesalers under the Battaglio brand."
The Argentinian pear production
In Argentina there is no single organisation that groups all pear producers. "It is a pity, because it makes it difficult to unify concepts and forms of working for what concerns technical and sanitary aspects and for the development of new markets and varieties. In addition, there is no protectionist policy to safeguard the local market, we need to deal with the free market. The countries that compete mostly with our fruit are South Africa and Chile, especially for what concerns apples. Pears and lemon remain the most exported. Rather than excessive production, nowadays Argentina has to deal with currency problems, which affect our competitiveness."
The main varieties are William, Packham, Red Bartlett, Danjou and Abate Fetel. "Our marketing campaign is based on brand development and its strengthening as a premium quality product."
