The PGI Espárrago de Navarra (Asparagus of Navarre) has launched a campaign in social media to promote the consumption of a product which has a great reputation amongst consumers, but whose enormous culinary potential remains often untapped.
To this end, and under the slogan "¡Vete a freír esparragos!... de Navarra"*, a recipe contest has opened on Facebook which welcomes everyone to send original recipes in with the asparagus from Navarre being the main ingredient.
All recipes must have a picture of the finished dish attached, along with a list of ingredients and the steps needed to prepare it; all of them will be posted on the Facebook pages of the PGI Espárrago de Navarra and of Reyno Gourmet. The deadline is 27 November, when a professional jury will choose the most creative, healthy and tasty recipe, which will be awarded with 300 Euro and a batch of Asparagus of Navarre. The 5 most voted recipes will also receive a free selection of Reyno Gourmet products.
The PGI Espárrago de Navarra pointed out that the promotion aims to highlight three main points: firstly, that asparagus have many properties; they are not fattening and contain many vitamins, fibre, folic acid, minerals, etc. Secondly, that it is a versatile product in the kitchen. The asparagus of Navarre allow you to make many different recipes, both traditional and more creative and sophisticated. And thirdly, that it is very important to recognise the origin on the label; teaching how to know when the product is of Navarran origin and not from other sources.
*¡Vete a freír espárragos! (literally translated to "Go fry some asparagus!") is a Spanish expression that usually means: "Go to hell!".
