Semi dry dates, treasure of the Egyptian Desert

Fruit Link has been supplying its own Semi Dry Dates for the past 5 years to its customers in Islamic, Western and Far Eastern destinations, like Malaysia, Morocco, Indonesia, Singapore, Cyprus, Bangladesh, India, France, South Korea, Japan and the Maldives. In South Korea and Japan, for instance, not traditional markets for dates, final customers have learned about their taste and properties and are increasingly willing to consume more.

When it comes to marketing, Ayman Bayoumy, export manager of Fruit Link assures that the fact that these countries are mostly familiar with fresh Medjool dates is an advantage despite the fact that Semi Dry Dates are quite a different product. The biggest advantage for all parties is the long shelf life of dates, which tends to reach 2 years (18-24 months), with stable quality and cheap storage conditions.
In terms of volume, Fruit Link produces some 6,000 tonnes in Upper Egypt. “We have the most suitable weather conditions and production facilities to obtain the quality demanded by our customers.” The company exports up to 70% of its total production at very competitive prices compared to other products,” while another 25% is sold in the local market during Ramadan Season and the remaining 5% is discarded.

Lastly, it is worth noting that Fruit Link is committed to offering a product that meets the most demanding phytosanitary standards. “When we supply customers at any destination, we include a certification for the fumigation from a company certified by the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture.”

The firm is interested in further growth, especially in Asia, and can offer numerous possibilities when it comes to packaging.
