Cabal Group

Europe: A reliable partner for Mexican bananas

Mexican group Cabal handles various banana brands such as "San Carlos" and "Bananas de Mexico" and has recently launched a campaign to promote itself as a reliable partner for European operators.

Mexican bananas used to be a "filler" in Europe and other countries, whereas now the group can guarantee a continuous and personalised offer according to all type/grade/packaging needs as well as the gathering of more producers under a single brand.

"We focus on Cavendish bananas. In the past few years, our company has not only become the leading producer and exporter, but also the pioneer in one of the most important African agricultural projects for the production of bananas and pineapples in Nigeria. Our priority has always been the supply of high-quality produce by controlling the entire distribution chain."

The group is made up of 19 companies that produce, sell, distribute and ripen bananas, baby bananas, pineapples, peppers, avocados, limes and greenhouse tomatoes.

It is the leading banana producer in Mexico covering 2,608 hectares in Tabasco, Chiapas and Colima with six ripening and distribution centres in the country plus one in the US.

It is also the leading green banana exporter with an average of 70 containers a week. In 2014, the company was rewarded as the leading exporter of fresh Mexican fruit in Europe.

"We supply the main distribution chains in Mexico and work with Dole, Spreafico, Univeg, Riego, Staay, Tander for exports".

Cabal's produce reaches clients in Europe, Russia, Mediterranean and Middle East. In Europe, its representatives are Carlos Cabal Pasini (owner) and Gino Iacopini, based in Montecarlo.

Currently, San Carlos also manages 2,000 hectares in Nigeria (in the Enugu and Rivers State regions) and, thanks to a joint venture with the local government, that figure should reach 10,000 in the near future.
