retail activities Frizzy taken over

Heemskerk to cut fruit again after 15 years

Vegetable processor Heemskerk fresh & easy and fruit processor Frizzy have agreed that Heemskerk will take over most of Frizzy's retail activities. Heemskerk and Frizzy have been working together for some time now. The partnership began with Frizzy as a supplier of apple slices and grapes, used for various meal salads put together by Heemskerk. Then the partnership was expanded with supplying small packagings of cut fruit for one of Heemskerk's clients. This led to nice growth figures, necessary advancment in the production, logistics and innovation process. The latter is closely connected to the ambitions of Heemskerk, which recently expanded by 8,500 m², and is currently busy with moving internally.

Broadening convenience supply
Until 15 years ago, the company from Rijnsburg cut fruit as well as vegetables. Following the market circumstances in those days, the fruit activities were halted. The current market situation, with a growing need for healthy, fresh and innovative products, provides sufficient grounds to take on the production of fruit on their own location again. This makes it possible to organize the logistical chain as optimally as possible, which is a must with freshly cut fruit. Adding value and standing out with nice (combination) concepts is also more of a possibility now. Heemskerk believes in broadening the convenience supply. Frizzy's portfolio of clients includes bakeries, hotels, wholesalers, small (chain) retailers and healthcare. Frizzy has experience in fruit, with its own strawberry nursery, and cuts the fruit for its clients. Frizzy's ambition is to continue with these activities, putting more focus on their own cultivation company.

Planned for
 2016
The transfer of the retail activities from Frizzy to Heemskerk is planned for 2016. Heemskerk is looking to provide its clients with enough opportunities to distinguish themselves. That's why the focus will be on organizing the transition as well as possible, rather than on automation and growth. The consumer shouldn't notice the change in production location.
