"Quality Tirol" potato now available at SPAR"

Potatoes: expected yield of 35 tons per hectare

Potatoes have been successfully grown in Tirol for over 200 years. Because of the sandy soil and ideal climate in Tirol, the potatoes have an especially intense flavour. This year’s harvest has already begun on the fields of vegetable grower Romed Wopfner in Thaur. As of now, the delicious “ Tiroler Speckigen” (“Tyrolean greasy”) and the “Tiroler Mehligen (“Tyrolean floury” ) with the seal of quality “Qualität Tirol” are available in all SPAR-, EUROSPAR- and INTERSPAR markets in Germany.

This year's harvest of the “Tiroler Speckigen” and “Tiroler Mehligen” has begun in the fields around the Plattnerhof in Thaur. On the Plattnerhof, the Wopfner family has been growing potatoes for generations and can fall back on a lot of experience and know-how. Vegetable grower Romed Wopfner is counting on a yield of around 35 tons: they harvest every day, so absolute freshness is guaranteed. The potatoes are packaged in 2 kg bags, which consumers can easily recognize by the “Qualität Tirol” seal of quality. “The cooperation of SPAR with the vegetable growers in Thaur has been going on for many decades and is very dear to us. The Tyrolean potatoes have an excellent taste with a hint of nutty and are a valuable addition to the matter of sustainability,” says Dr. Christof Rissbacher, CEO of SPAR in Tirol and Salzburg.
