VIII World Avocado Congress joins 1,500 people from industry

The VIII World Avocado Congress, the most important congress for the industry engaged in the production, export, and marketing of Hass Avocado worldwide, will be held in Peru from September 13th to the 18th. The Association of producers and exporters of Hass avocado from Peru, PROHASS, organizes the event.

"Peru has become the second largest exporter in the world with 165,000 metric tons recorded last year, thanks to the effort of agro companies and their collaborators during the past 15 years," said James Bosworth, President of the International Avocado Society and President of PROHASS. "Currently our main destinations for avocado are Europe and the United States, representing 90% of our export," he said.

In the previous edition, Peru was chosen as the venue for the VIII World Avocado Congress because of its solid growth during the past few years. "Our outstanding agro-export activity, the quality of the Peruvian avocado, our production volume and the geographical and climatic advantages of the country have been instrumental to hosting this important world event," said James Bosworth.

The program of the VIII World Avocado Congress includes presentations by international specialists. The main topics include: genetic resources and nurseries, pest and diseases, field management, post-harvest, marketing and foreign trade. In addition, and for the first time, leading American scientist will be addressing the fact that consuming this fruit has an impact on nutrition and health of the people.

The social agenda of the program includes a cultural and gastronomic tour for visitors, who will participate in restaurant dinners, presentations of national folklore, and visits to the producing areas. In addition, the attendees will also be able to go to a trade show where the industry will exhibit their brands and products.

During one week, the attendees from leading delegations from Germany, England, United States, France, Holland, and Canada, among others, will exchange their knowledge, experiences, reflections and research in order to promote the industry, global consumption, and open more markets.
