Fru&tube, the fruit to take away, hits the market

After more than two years of research and development, the company Fru&tube has hit the market with an innovative product, never before seen, and intends to promote the consumption of fresh fruit.

It is fruit selected because of its high Brix levels and presented in tube-shaped packaging that resembles a container with tennis balls, which, in addition to ensuring easy transportation, protects the contents from bumps and keeps the fruit intact.

"The goal of our product is to get people to eat fruit anywhere," said 28 year old Carlos Méndez, creator of the concept. "Currently, the absence of any packaging formats developed for this end and the risks involved in transporting fruit in a backpack, purse etc., result in consumers choosing other less healthy snacking products."

As a pedal fan, Carlos recalls how "one day I started looking at a tube containing tennis balls and I realised how easy they are to carry, so I thought that I could do the same with fruit."

"Getting here has not been easy," he states, "as many issues had to be sorted, such as ensuring a good perspiration for the container to prevent the fruit from rotting, or finding a way to prevent the lid from getting loose as a result of the fruit's weight."

Fru&tube is available in three different sizes with the same height, depending on the fruit packaged, from peaches and apples to small fruits, like grapes and cherries. Moreover, the packaging contains a tissue made with 100% natural products to wash the fruit before eating it.

Carlos stresses that the package will serve to attract consumers, but that the key to the product's success is the fruit itself, "as that is what will make the consumer come back for more. Our commitment, more than anything, is to offer great tasting fruit," he points out.

"It seems that there is a lack of awareness about the health benefits of fruit. The product will be sold for about 2 Euro, the same price paid for a drink or a pastry. We offer a healthy alternative to consumers."

In September we are launching the product at Spanish distribution chains Alcampo, Carrefour and Sabeco. "Market opportunities are great. We could sell them in vending machines at gyms, fruit stores, etc. It is a product with a sleek, striking design and I'm sure it will capture the attention of consumers. If we succeed in Spain we'll try to expand to the rest of Europe," concluded Carlos Méndez.

Fru&tube will be present at the next edition of Fruit Attraction, in Madrid, at stand 7A02.
