Raspberry exports have grown significantly this season, reaching 20,009 tonnes, compared to almost 15,539 tonnes in the previous campaign; that is, a 29% growth. The fruit is one of those being used by growers in Huelva to diversify production, given how strawberries appear to have reached their full potential at around 6,500 hectares.
The value of these exports between December and May this year has also increased, up 21% compared to the previous season, according to data recorded by the Prices and Markets Observatory of the Council of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Government of Andalusia.
For now, it seems that European markets are responding well to this increase in the export of raspberries; however, it is also worth noting that the average unit price of the product in the EU markets has dropped by 6% this year. While the average last season was of 7.79 €/kilo, this campaign it has amounted to 7.32 €/kilo.
The average unit price in markets outside Europe has also been reduced by 5% (9.5 €/kilo in 2014 compared to 9.03 €/kilo in 2015).
In absolute terms, the value of exports has increased to 147.8 million Euro this campaign, compared to the 122.2 million of the previous season.
96% of Andalusia's raspberry exports are shipped to European markets.
By months
The evolution of raspberry exports to EU countries by months reveals significant differences between this campaign and the previous one, especially in May. In 2015 there has been an upturn in sales from January to April; however, in 2014 the upward trend continued until May.
