In the Bogatovsky District in Samara, the greenhouse complex ‘Avangard’, which grows tomatoes and cucumber for profit, was inspected on August 17. Employees from the Rospotrebnadzor, Rosselkhoznadzor and the prosecutor's office came to the Trostyanka village after an appeal from local residents. According to the locals, the workers at the complex are using chemicals which are having a harmful effect on the surrounding environment.
Recently, residents of the Bogatovsky District appealed to the editor of ‘VK’. Villagers complained about the owner of the ‘Avangard’ complex, L.M Kim. The local residents suspect that the vegetables being grown in the greenhouses are being done so with the use of chemicals that are adversely affecting the environment. "As a result, fish are dying in the lakes," said the deputy of the village council Y. Molchov.
“We only use high quality imported fertilizer,” parries owner L.M. Kim, “And all of the attacks are caused by the envy of local businessmen who just want to drive out a strong competitor from the region.”
Nevertheless, the villager’s complaints were passed on to the prosecutor's office. On 17 August the staff of the supervisory authority went to the village Trostyanka where the 80 ‘Avangard’ greenhouses are located, for an inspection. In the greenhouses, barrels with pinkish liquid and bags of agrochemicals indicate that fertilisers are applied in the irrigation system of the cucumbers and tomatoes. Only it is unclear whether they are applied in the permitted dosages. The chief specialist of the Rospotrebnadzor Otradnaya Department, O.M Molozin, questioned Kim concerning the relevant catalogues for the appropriate application of the fertilisers and whether they used insecticides for pest control.
The inspectors also visited the dwellings of the migrant workers who work in the greenhouses. Where Molozin requested to see the protective clothing the workers wear for applying pesticides and fertilisers, Kim stated that they have them, but they could not be located.
The tour also involved an inspection of the warehouse which holds the finished product. Molozin noted several violations. Representatives of the agencies took soil samples from the greenhouses for laboratory analysis. The finished products will also be analysed. The Deputy Prosecutor of the Bogatovsky District, has asked Kim to come to the prosecutor’s office in the next few days with a number of documents.
