The current Russian food product embargo has given a strong impetus to the development of new greenhouse complexes in the country, including in the Yaroslavl region. It is hoped that domestic greenhouse produce will be able to replace imported goods on the supermarket shelves.
As of 2015, greenhouse vegetables in Russia are predominantly grown in the Karachay- Cherkessia Republic, the Republic of Tatarstan, Moscow and the Republic of Bashkortostan. It is expected that in the next 2-3 years the Yaroslavl region will increasingly contribute to this list.
Indeed, the region is preparing to make a significant contribution to import substitution. Over the course of two years, in Yaroslavl’s Dzerzhinsk region, two new facilities will be erected - a modern logistics center and greenhouse complex. All products, growing in greenhouses and other agricultural complexes in Yaroslavl will pass through the necessary controls at the new logistics centre, without having to leave the Yaroslavl region. There, the vegetables will be stored, processed and prepared for distribution.
The government of the Yaroslavl region have already signed an agreement with the company ‘Zdorovy Dvorik’. For the full realisation of the projects, €20 million will be invested. Regular and current funding will allow objectives to pass without delay - to the end of 2017.
Construction of the facilities will soon start, in the meantime work is being carried out on the collection of project documentation. A rental plot has already been issued for the construction of the logistics center. The project will be realised on an area of 14,000 m2. Regular checks by the prosecutor’s office will help to avoid violations and theft of the investment funds.
The company ‘Zdorovy Dvorik’ was registered in spring 2013 in Yaroslavl. During this time, the company headed by Zaurbek Tligurovym has established itself as a responsible and reliable partner. The main work of ‘Zdorovy Dvorik’ is directed at retail.
The registration of the company in the region’s centre has big implications: tax from the logistic centre’s profit will add to the regional budget. The Yaroslavl authorities are prepared to provide the project with financial support. The regional government has high hopes for the success of the logistics center and greenhouse complex. It is expected that the project will pay for itself within a year of operation. At the same time, more than 300 locals will be employed by the new facilities.
Today the region mostly grows cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes and salad greens. It is possible that the range will expand over time. As regards the forecast for the current year, the farmers of the Yaroslavl region expect to harvest 11,000 tons of vegetables. However, the collection is only just beginning.
