New multitrack hydro-cooler enables sorting prior to refrigeration
The multitrack hydro-cooler has a maximum of three tracks at its disposal, of which the inner lane is divided for transporting fresh products through the cooling chamber. This cooling option enables the packaging- and processing personnel to refrigerate the loose fruit and vegetables after they have been sorted according to quality and size. The goal is to minimize handling damage of some products such as carrots or cherries which are more delicate after cooling.
A further result is saving on space, capital expenditure, and operating costs, because the multitrack hydro cooler makes the purchase and operating of multiple facilities redundant. Furthermore, the traceability is supported, as batches of different producers or production lines can be transported simultaneously.
Wyma’s multitrack hydro-cooler sprinkles water on the products as a means of cooling. In a heat exchanger with a spiral structure, water is cooled to below freezing point. This cooled water is then sprayed onto the loose products, so that the core temperature drops rapidly.
The instant removal of field heat is the first and most important step in increasing the shelf life of fruit and vegetables, and in keeping them fresh, so that they are suitable for the buyers. Water cooling systems are a beloved cooling method in packaging companies and food processing plants, because the moisture is maintained and a fast lowering of the core temperature of the product is ensured. This leads to minimal loss in weight and quality through dehydration, and thus to a maximizing of marketable products.
