New mango variety Bangladesh

Cultivation of Haribhanga, a new variety of mango has gained much popularity among the farmers of Mithapukur Upazila in Rangpur district as they are getting comparatively more profit by cultivating it on their lands.

A good number of farmers who once used to cultivate paddy on their lands are now cultivating Haribhanga as the cultivation of it has become more lucrative than paddy, sources said.

Disgruntled over low price of paddy during last few years, many farmers of the Upazila started cultivation of mango with new zeal and optimism. At last their efforts proved successful as they have earned huge profit by selling their produce.

According to Upazila Agriculture office sources around 2,800 farmers have been cultivating mango at different villages under the upazila. Among them at least 500 growers are cultivating haribhanga on their farmlands instead of paddy.
