Western Australian producers encouraged to look at export markets

The CEO of Cherry Growers Australia says there is potential to open the cherry export door in Western Australia if the industry explores new growing regions, invests in the right varieties and embraces technology.

Simon Boughey attended an export workshop for WA growers in the south-west town of Manjimup.

WA produces 500 tonnes of cherry a year, which is small when compared to Tasmania's 4,500 tonnes and Victoria's 4,000 tonnes.

Mr Boughey said small individual growers should explore their export market potential.
