Germany: This year’s strawberry harvest in Lower Saxony lower than last year

According to the preliminary results a strawberry harvest of 41,300 metric tons can be expected. The Lower Saxony Office of Statistics (LSN) estimates that the yield will be 4.5% lower than last year. The lower harvest isn't related to the yield per hectare, which was at an average level with 124 metric tons per hectare. Unlike last year, the acreage decreased significantly to 3,200 hectares, a decrease of the surface of 8%.

An overview of the acreage, yield and strawberry production in Lower Saxony can be found here.

For the preliminary results data on the strawberry production and areas used for the cultivation from the survey in June 2015 is used. The final results will be available at the start of 2016, after the November/December 2015 vegetable survey has been done.
