US (FL): State Citrus Department executive director resigns after DUI
The resignation came at the request of Marty McKenna, chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission, the department's governing body, who told Ackerman he had lost confidence in him because of his conduct during and after the arrest.
“In my view, your conduct does not meet the standards expected of the executive director,” McKenna wrote in an email Monday afternoon accepting Ackerman's resignation. “As far as I am concerned, your conduct last week embarrassed the department and showed a lack of reliability and judgment.”
McKenna, a Lake Wales-based citrus grower, noted Ackerman failed to show up for work Thursday and Friday at the Citrus Department's Bartow headquarters and refused to take McKenna's call Saturday morning. They talked later that day, at which time McKenna asked for his resignation.
“Since I have lost your confidence and the confidence in the (Citrus Commission) due to my issues with PTSD, please consider this my resignation, effective immediately,” Ackerman wrote in a Monday morning email.
