A delay of approximately seven to nine days for all varieties is currently noticeable in Puglia. The delay of grapes from Sicily will be even longer. KÖLLA estimates that the delay there will be ten to fourteen days.

Victoria grape
The first green seeded Victoria grapes from Puglia have been available since week 28. The amount of grapes harvested will increase from week 30 on. And according to KÖLLA this season’s yield from Puglia will be at least as large as last year. On the whole the quality is outstanding. “We have received Sicilian grapes for the past thee weeks, however the colours have not been entirely satisfactory.”

Italia
The small quantities of the first Italia grapes from Sicily are already on sale. Larger quantities will reach the market in the next 3-4 weeks. The Italia grapes in Puglia haven’t developed properly therefore KÖLLA expects a 30% to 35% lower yield. The company estimates the quality as average. The beginning of the season is expected at the end of August or the beginning of September. This depends on the season of the Victoria grape.

The old varieties such as Regina Vera or Pizzutella will only be sold on the Italian market and to connoisseurs of this variety in southern Germany.

Blue varieties
KÖLLA has been selling the blue grape variety Black Magic since week 26. “We have been trading for two or three weeks with these dark seeded grapes from Sicily and Puglia,” explains KÖLLA. After a delay of about seven days, at the end of July, the beginning of August, there will be the transition to the Palieri variety. The company states that the harvest will be significantly lower than last year.

Red Globe
The Red Globe is expected in week 34 to 35. “The quality of the Red Globe from Puglia is quite problematic with a low availability,” expects KÖLLA. “However we do expect a good quality and a normal harvest from Sicily.”
