Caderechas expects to have a lower but more competitive production

Sometimes, it’s possible to make profit from lower production due to the quality of the product. The technical director of the Caderechas Guarantee Cherry Brand, José Ignacio Velasco said that, despite the high temperatures, production would exceed 100,000 kilos; a number that is considerably lower than the 150,000 to 200,000 kilos expected previously.

However, Velasco stated, the special microclimate of the environment and the late season increased the fruit’s flavour, which will allow them to have a profitable harvest and compete better in the market.

According to Velasco, this favourable positioning at a national level is caused by the country’s productions being ready much earlier. However, in the case of Caderechas, there will only be cherries until the beginning of August.

Moreover, the III Gastronomic Festival of the Caderechas Guarantee Cherry Brand was held on Sunday at the Plaza de la Flora, where chefs and sommeliers from Burgos got together to develop some of their best creations.

The initiative, sponsored by Burgos Alimenta, the Association of Cooks and Confectioners of Burgos (Acorebu), and the Association of Sommeliers of Burgos (ASBU), aims to make the public aware of the properties of the cherry, said Paul Cofreces, president of Acorebu.

The President of ASBU, Nely Rosso Alba, stated that the public would enjoy the cooking exhibit and that the final consumer would be able to know the characteristics of each cherry.

Apart from the culinary exhibits, the festival had a booth in which Caderechas presented information on the different varieties of this tasty fruit. In addition, four producers from the valley had stands were the public could buy cherries without intermediaries. Additionally, Virginia González (Artevir) gave a demonstration of carving fruit throughout the morning.

The promotion of Caderechas cherry will continue this week thanks to the involvement of six renowned restaurants in the capital that included this product in their menus.
