UK: Serbia's 'Red Gold' in big demand

Amplefruit is a UK based firm who specialises in IQF Fruit imports. One of the company’s Directors is of Serbian background who, along with his British partners, set up a business in the UK to import IQF fruit from Serbia.

“Our staff on the ground in Serbia works continuously to identify the best growers and processors providing them with guidance and support from the very beginning of each season” explains Business Development Manager, Ezgi Erturk. “We always choose processing facilities which are placed close to the best growing areas for the current season thus all the goodness and quality of the fruit is retained. The IQF process is carried out by professionals with over a decade of experience in IQF technology. We have helped processing and cold store facilities to improve their standards and traceability of products to fit the UK market which is now becoming more reachable to them."

“Our customer’s main interest is raspberries, the ‘red gold’ of Serbia. We are experiencing a huge demand this year. There is a lot of excitement at the moment because the harvest is in full swing and prices are finally coming to light."

Erturk said that Amplefruit is concentrating on Serbian products at the moment as the crop is incredible due to the excellent weather this season. Agriculture is an important part of the Serbian economy and one it takes pride in. Amplefruit is planning to continue to work with and support local Serbian growers in years to come.

Erturk explained that food safety is of utmost importance for Amplefruit which is why they have people not only in the UK but also on the ground in Serbia, ensuring full traceability from the growers to the finished product. They also carry out continuous internal and 3rd party microbiological testing throughout the entire process to ensure the produce brings nothing but health to all consumers.

Serbia is known for its raspberry production, but Amplefruit also imports IQF strawberries, blueberries and blackberries as well as sour cherries, plums and red and blackcurrants.
