Romania: Seasonal fruit and veg prices at Central Market
Seasonal fruits and vegetables have become widely available in Romania's domestic markets. Fruit stalls already have raspberries, melons, green beans, cabbage and other products from domestic growers. Traders say that, this year, some products are more expensive.
Producers say the apricot harvest is smaller this year due to frosts in spring. On the other hand, they affirm there will be a large supply of peaches.
At the Central Market in Bucharest, the cheapest fruits are currently peaches, cherries and sour cherries, sold for 15 lei per kilo*. A kilo of apricots costs between 16 and 20 lei. Strawberries and raspberries are sold for 20 and 25 lei per kilo, respectively.
Meanwhile, vegetable prices range from the 3 lei per kilo of courgettes to the 40 lei of aubergines. Sweet peas cost 20 lei and green beans stand at 30 lei per kilo.
