Senegal to produce 350,000 tons of onion 2015-2016

The Director of Horticulture, Macomb Diouf, announced on Thursday that Senegal is well underway to reach 350,000 tons of onion production in 2015-2016, with a target of 175,000 tons destined for export. “Mr Diouf explains that “Onion production in Senegal has gone from 2,000 tons in 2000 to 85,000 tons in 2014”.

The Niayes region produces 60% of national production and 80% of horticultural products are destined for export. Mr Diouf also underlines that all horticultural farming aims for Senegal to be self-sufficient in agricultural production.
