Fruit and veg processing machines and cultivation advice in one

The number of supermarkets in CIS countries (Commonwealth of Independent States) is growing fast. Inherent to this growth is the demand for packaged fruits and vegetables. The supermarket customers are demanding a higher food quality. Moreover, they want the food to come in attractive packaging. The supermarkets in these countries are comparable to those in the Netherlands.

Arie Koppert

Koppert Machines, located in Monster, The Netherlands, is busy with this increasing demand from the customers. Sales of their cultivation and processing machinery is skyrocketing there. "On the one hand, growers and packers want the best machines to be able to deliver the highest quality available, on the other hand they are still unfamiliar with our modern cultivation techniques. And these two really belong together." In order to fill this gap, Arie Koppers has some cultivation advisers. These advisers regularly visit the growers. That is working very well. It appears to be the solution for meeting the demand from the consumers," says Arie Koppert.

Koppert Machines has it's roots in radish processing. A lot of radishes are eaten in the CIS countries. Labor is also becoming more expensive there, so automation is going to play an increasingly important role. Moreover, worldwide demand for radishes is increasing. The growth in radish machines is mainly being filled by new markets, and not so much by the aftermarket. The Netherlands is the exception to that rule. The acreage of radishes remains the same, but the cultivation of radishes is becoming more intense. Companies are growing and yields are rising.

In the last 35 years Arie Koppert has been investing in R&D. Even though it's roots are in radishes, Koppert Machines delivers plenty of other fruit and vegetable processing machines:

  • Lamb's lettuce (sowing, harvesting, washing and packaging)
  • Green onions (sowing, harvesting, washing, peeling and forest machinery)
  • Packaging machines. At Fruit Logistica in Berlin Koppert Machines presented their new 'Multi Verpakker' (Multi-packaging machine). This machine can create packaging for every size and all types of fruits and vegetables.
