8th World Avocado Congress

Global avocado industry meeting in Peru

"Thanks to the efforts of exporting companies and their partners during the last 15 years, Peru has become the world's second largest avocado exporter with 165,000 tonnes last year," said James Bosworth, president of the International Avocado Association and the Association of Producers and Exporters of Hass Avocados of Peru, ProHass.

This strong growth registered by Peru in recent years earned it the privilege to be chosen as host for the 8th World Avocado Congress, which is to be held from 13 to 18 September. The event, organised by ProHass, is considered the most important for the Hass avocado industry worldwide.

Between 13 and 18 September, Peru will welcome producers, exporters, importers and researchers from more than 25 countries.

The programme will feature presentations by international experts. The main topics include: genetic resources and nurseries, pests and diseases, field management, post-harvest, marketing and foreign trade. And for the first time, the impact of the fruit's consumption in nutrition and health will be addressed by leading U.S. scientists.

The social agenda also includes a cultural and gastronomic tour for visitors, who will also find a trade show where the industry can present their brands and products.

"At the moment, the main destinations for our avocados are Europe and the United States, which account for 90% of the exports," said James Bosworth, in this picture next to Ricardo Romero and Arturo Medina Castro.

For a week, prominent delegations from Germany, the UK, the U.S., France, the Netherlands and Canada, among others, will exchange knowledge, experiences, reflections and research in order to boost the industry, global consumption and the opening of new markets.

Undoubtedly, an essential event for those interested in making good business and keeping abreast of developments in the avocado industry.
