Poland: High demand and prices frozen raspberries

The EU market for frozen raspberries is currently marked by low supply. Foodnews reports that stocks in Europe are very low, while in Poland they are almost entirely sold out. Demand on the European market, however, is high, and this is driving prices up.

According to Eurostat, in the last quarter of 2014, Poland's raspberry exports were about 9% higher than in the same period of the previous year, amounting to 21,000 tonnes. In the same period, Serbian frozen raspberry exports to the EU also increased by 9.5%. Since the start of the year, the price of Polish frozen raspberries has increased by nearly 19%, reaching 2.20 €/kg. On average, in the first week of May, the price was at a similar level to that registered a year earlier.

Serbia's raspberry production, according to the association of producers "Serbian raspberry", is at a similar level to last year's and amounts to 65,000 tonnes.

The price of frozen raspberries from Chile, which could be an alternative to European frozen food, has dropped slightly, although it remains high. According to Foodnews, a kilo of Chilean frozen raspberries currently costs $ 4.30/kg or about 10% less than last year.
