Given the situation in Russia, “Parmenion”, like other Greek companies while hoping for the trade embargo to be lift, has been forced to look for alternative for destinations. Gregory affirms that “The main difficulty involved in this is finding solutions to maintain the product’s freshness when shipping to more distant destinations, like Dubai. In any case, all volumes will be sold, although prices will certainly be increased due to shipping costs.”
The key strategy lies in the selection of varieties. Those with a longer shelf life, are shipped overseas, while the rest stays in the local market. Greece, where the cherries, Peaches,Nectarine and plumss are cultivated, “Offers ideal growing conditions, with a climate that makes the fruit’s taste stand out against its competitors”.
All in all, Parmenion is working hard to find new companies and customers to work with to ensure that the Russian ban will have a minimal impact to the company.
The company was founded in 1969 and devoted to the production and export of stone fruit, namely cherries, peaches, nectarines and plums. Parmenion attended the recent edition of Freskon in Thessaloniki, where they offered us their prospects for the new cherry season.
