BLE market report 18/15

Fruits, vegetables and tropical fruits on German wholesale markets

The newsletter of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food (BLE) in week 18/2015 showed a short overview of the activities of the most common products on German wholesale markets.

Apples

With the increased availability, the prices can rarely stay at the current level with offers from overseas; especially with the Chilean Royal Gala, people will have to accept reductions.

Pears
Generally, the prices shifted around adequately for the supplies within the usual margins, oriented towards the storages; in Munich, the prices were trending downward in most instances.

Table grapes
The influx is reducing across the board. The demand was not particularly strongly pronounced and was easily satisfied. With convincing quality and taste, the demands of the 17th calendar week could be met.

Strawberries
In many cases, the week would start out tough: firstly as of Wednesday, with the holidays in view, the customers are spiritedly taking hold of the strawberries. The demands usually rise thereafter. In Hamburg, Spanish fruits of diminished quality are pushing towards reductions in price.

Kiwis
With a supply attuned to the accommodation facilities, prices are not changing significantly.

Lemons
The supply is oriented towards the need, so that with regard to the prices, it could only rarely come to fluctuations.

Bananas
The distributors have mostly adjusted influxes from ripeness to demand, so that there are not too many products in stock. Thus, the ratings remained stable.

Cauliflower

Germany started with the first deliveries of the season. The marginal batches did not generate quick transactions. Crates of 6 and 8 pieces were priced between 7.50 and 9 Euro.

Lettuce

With iceberg lettuce, which is flown in exclusively from Spain, with one lot, condition decreased, and in another the availability dwindled noticeably. The prices crumbled.

Cucumbers

The product range has fanned out. The supply frequently matched the accommodation facilities, so that prices often remained stable.

Tomatoes
Noticeably smaller supplies are coming from Southern Europe, therefore the presence of Central European fruits is rising. Generally the price range is broadening, market dependent and quality oriented.

Sweet peppers

The Dutch importations arrived in extremely limited amounts, and are not nearly enough to meet the demand. The prices shot up rapidly from midweek at the latest.

Asparaguses

Provisioning from national territory expanded considerably. Because of the weather, demand shifted within narrow limits. Prices dropped. Far removed from eviction, up to Friday, availability improved.

Onions
With household articles, domestic quantities were stinted, and the prices remained at a stable level. On the other hand, import from overseas increased, which caused reductions in price.
