Perlim obtain exclusive Evelina rights in France

After a 3 year process, Perlim, french leader in the cultivation and sales of 2 “AOP”s “Limousin apples” and “Périgord walnuts”, will be the exclusive grower and seller of Evelina apples in France. It joins Melinda, which has selling rights in Italy, amongst other famous marketers of the variety in Europe.

“This red variety does very well when grown in high altitude areas, which is our case here in Limousin, so this was one of the reasons we were able to make the deal,” said Béatrice Chauffaille, advertising and promotion manager for Perlim. “ We also gained the interest of the Evelina Company because we are one of the biggest growing groups in France and guarantee a “hand-stitched” production.” Perlim is continually investing in orchards, packing houses and quality control procedures. “All this know-how allows to retain the flavour subtleties of their fruits. It is the reason why Perlim has been changing its baseline since the 2013’s crop. The new signature for Perlim is Perlim , the “Haute culture”of fruit which is working in France and Spain.”

This season's production will be small, with less than 100 tons of apples grown and sold, but if the trial goes well, Chauffaille said they could expand the program quickly.

“We want to target the French market in priority,” said Chauffaille, “but we also negotiate to be allowed to sell in Spain, because our brand is quite famous there as well.” Only 30 hectares were cultivated this current season, but the goal is to raise up to 150 hectares within ten years.

The Evelina apple has both a similar shape and taste to the Golden Delicious variety. Indeed, it is crunchy with a unique balance of sugar and acidity and can be considered as the red sister of Golden.

Perlim will sell Evelina in the form of a co-branding between Perlim and Evelina brands as Melinda already do in Italy.
