Italy: More kiwis sold overseas and recovery of apple trade towards Libya

The top fruit market did not show many changes with respect to the latest survey. There was a slight recovery of trade towards Libya for apples, whereas increased volumes of pears were sold abroad. More kiwis were sold overseas.

Fresh apples: no particular variation. Slight recovery of exports towards Libya though purchases are still uncertain due to the political-military situation of the country. Stable trade on the domestic market - slow but constant.

As regards quotations, prices increased slightly, due to a growth in demand for Stark Delicious and Gala in Bolzano.

Fresh pears: trend in line with the previous survey. Stable quantities on the domestic market, especially thanks to special offers from retailers. More quantities of Abate Fetel sold abroad thanks to the increased demand from Northern-Europe.

This led to an increase in prices. Demand was constant for Decana, Conference and Kaiser.

Kiwis: no particular variation. Good quality standards for most of the produce although a part shows signs of over-ripening.

The market was rather stable, with an increase in volumes sold abroad due to the higher demand from Canada and United States.

Domestic market - Average weekly prices
As regards average weekly production prices, kiwis were rather stable with respect to the previous week but with a +10.4% on last year.

Increase in quotations for both apples (0.4%) and pears (1.8%) with respect to week 8 of 2015, though these prices were respectively 25.9 and 2.6% lower than last year's week 9.
