The Market Garden, located in Eynsham, is a greengrocers and wholefood seller specializing in organics.
They offer a selection of seasonal fruit and vegetable boxes, which can be mixed and matched to contain conventional or organic products, or both.
“The £15 box is probably our most popular,” according to Lucy. “Our main customers are families, and the size and variety of this box suits them. We also have quite a few single customers, who tends to buy the £10 box, perhaps once a week.”
Lucy believes the organic market has been growing steadily in recent years.
“We have been supplying the boxes for around five years now, and they are increasingly popular. Almost all of our products are sourced locally, in the area around Eynsham and Witney. Sometimes, however, customers demand a product which is out of season locally, so then we might import it from abroad, such as Spanish tomatoes in the winter. Our most popular product is our salad mix which we grow and blend ourselves with a variety of lettuces, herbs and other salad leaves. We are able to produce this throughout the year as we grow in polytunnels over the winter.”
The boxes can be collected at the Market Garden shop in Eynsham, but can also be ordered online and delivered in the local area of Witney.
“The online part of the store has certainly grown. We are starting up our new website soon, and there has been a lot of interest so far, and we expect this to increase.”
The Market Garden also sells organic eggs and dairy products.
